A Sparking Reflection on Terroir 2017

On May 29, 2017 we Sparkling Winos had the opportunity to attend the 2017 Terroir Symposium at the Art Gallery of Ontario. We had the pleasure of being among chefs, food and drink experts, media personalities and business representatives who gathered to celebrate Canada’s food and wine scene ahead of our sesquicentennial (or 150th) birthday!

A Weekend in Wine Country: The Niagara Escarpment & Twenty Valley

This past Victoria Day long weekend we were lucky enough to head out to the Niagara Escarpment & Twenty Valley in Wine Country Ontario to promote the new 2017 Travel Guide! The Niagara Escarpment & Twenty Valley is home to 47 wineries, 16 historical sites, 14 restaurants, 8 cycling trails, 6 music festivals… and a whole lot more!

A Sparkling Birthday Weekend in Niagara

Last weekend we fuelled up our new Mini Cooper (…the jury is still out on her name!) and headed out to Wine Country Ontario for a little road trip to celebrate my (Jeff’s) birthday. Mike was kind enough to be the DD, as I tasted through an assortment of beautiful bubbles at some of our favourite local wineries. Here’s a little re-cap of our sparkling weekend!

Easter Bubbles for Every Budget & Palate

It’s Easter already! Spring has sprung and there’s a sense of celebration in the air… and with celebration comes sparkling wine! While Easter bunnies and chocolate eggs are fun, nothing can beat a perfectly chilled glass of bubbly with family and friends.

A Sparkling Review of the Cuvée 2017 Grand Tasting!

This year, we had the opportunity to attend the Cuvée 2017 Grand Tasting, hosted by Brock University’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) in Niagara Falls, Canada! We were honoured and delighted to take part in the Grand Tasting, which celebrates excellence in Ontario winemaking and features a stunning array of award-winning VQA wines. And luckily for us, the bubbly was well represented! 🍾

Our Ontario Sparkling Wine Map is Here!

Living in Toronto, we love to drink local Ontario sparkling wine. Luckily for us, we’re spoiled for choice as there are over 100 sparkling wines currently being produced here in Ontario! To help you navigate through this amazing selection of sparkling wines, we’ve put together a handy map! On the map you’ll be able to find every Ontario winery producing sparkling wine, and sort them by region, style, method, varietal and more!

Why Ontario Sparkling Wines are the Best, Eh!

That’s right! There’s more to Canada than maple syrup, polar bears and a hunky Prime Minister! The country is home to a diverse array of climates, with certain areas (like southern Ontario) on the same ideal grape growing latitude as southern France. Fortunately for us Toronto based #SparklingWinos, that means we’re able to produce world class wines in our own backyard!

Back 10 Cellars Smitten Sparkling – Review

This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’re sipping Back 10 Cellars Smitten Sparkling! Is this a bottle of bubbles you should POP? 💁 Or is it a FLOP? 🙅 Let’s see…     The Smitten Sparkling is produced by Back 10 Cellars in Ontario, Canada. Back 10 began as dream in a cafe in 1999 – how romantic is that? As luck would have it, the future owners came across a plot of land in quaint Beamsville and founded the winery. Not only that, but they founded Crush on Niagara Wine Tours, which just so happened …

A Sparkling Niagara Icewine Festival

Icewine is the crown jewel of the Ontario wine industry, and is celebrated every January at the Niagara Icewine Festival! Thanks to Wine Country Ontario we had the pleasure of attending this year’s spectacular kick off event – the Xerox Icewine Gala – which left an absolutely sparkling impression on us! 😍

Château des Charmes Brut Sparkling – Review

This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’ve got Château des Charmes Brut Sparkling in our flutes! Is this a bottle of bubbles you should POP? 💁 Or is it a FLOP? 🙅 Read on to find out…     We love Ontario sparkling wines for many reasons. One being the fact that they’re crafted right here in our own backyard, and another being the fact that they’re freaking GREAT! Here in Southern Ontario growing conditions mirror that of the Champagne in France, and many wine makers take an “old world” approach to crafting their wines.
