You know that 2018 is off to a great start when you kick off the year with one of the most glamorous wine experiences in Ontario – the Niagara Icewine Gala! Part of a broader array of events, the Icewine Gala showcases Canada’s largest wine export: Icewine!
What can we say? 2017 was such a ✨sparkling✨ year, where we took our #SparklingShenanigans across the country (…and the globe)! From Toronto to Niagara to the seaside of Nova Scotia in Canada to Las Vegas, Chicago and sunny Florida in the US of A, we’ve been blessed with some amazing moments, met some incredible people, and had plenty of fantastic sparkling wine along the way. We are the Sparkling Winos, after all! 😉 So, without further ado, here are our Top 20 sparkling moments which helped make our year such a bubbly and memorable one! 🍾
This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’re sipping Henry of Pelham’s Cuvée Catharine 2012 Estate Blanc de Blanc – which just won platinum at the National Wine Awards of Canada!
This year, we Sparkling Winos had the privilege of attending the International Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration (aka “i4C“) in Wine Country Ontario! It’s no surprise that i4C has been described as “Christmas in July” or the “Woodstock of Chardonnay”. With over 50 wine makers in attendance (and 150+ selected cool climate wines on offer) i4C is truly an epic celebration of all things cool… and the highlight of the summer calendar here in Niagara!
It’s Ontario Wine Week! This week long celebration of local wine was officially declared by the provincial government back in June 2005, and we’ve been celebrating it ever since! On May 29, 2017 we Sparkling Winos had the opportunity to attend the 2017 Terroir Symposium at the Art Gallery of Ontario. We had the pleasure of being among chefs, food and drink experts, media personalities and business representatives who gathered to celebrate Canada’s food and wine scene ahead of our sesquicentennial (or 150th) birthday!
This past Victoria Day long weekend we were lucky enough to head out to the Niagara Escarpment & Twenty Valley in Wine Country Ontario to promote the new 2017 Travel Guide! The Niagara Escarpment & Twenty Valley is home to 47 wineries, 16 historical sites, 14 restaurants, 8 cycling trails, 6 music festivals… and a whole lot more!
This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’re sipping Vieni Estates Canada 150! Is this a bottle of bubbles you should POP? 💁 Or is it a FLOP? 🙅 Let’s see! Vieni Estates is located in Beamsville in Ontario’s Wine Country and… luckily for us, specializes in sparkling wine! Master winemaker Mauro Salvador brings his passion for wine from Italy and combines it with his love for Ontario’s unique terroir and ability to produce world class wines. He produces a broad and compelling range of still and sparkling wines (crafted in the Charmat method, or …
Last weekend we fuelled up our new Mini Cooper (…the jury is still out on her name!) and headed out to Wine Country Ontario for a little road trip to celebrate my (Jeff’s) birthday. Mike was kind enough to be the DD, as I tasted through an assortment of beautiful bubbles at some of our favourite local wineries. Here’s a little re-cap of our sparkling weekend!
