Pommery Brut Royal Champagne – Review

This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’re sipping Pommery Brut Royal Champagne! Is this a bottle of bubbles you should POP? 💁 Or is it a FLOP? 🙅 Let’s see…

The Pommery Brut Royal Champagne is produced by Champagne Pommery in Reims. We all know a certain Veuve that took control of a major champagne house, but did you know that another Veuve – the Veuve Jeanne Alexandrine Louise Mélin Pommery – took control of the Champagne Pommery house in 1860? Louise was an early #GirlPower pioneer, not only because she ran a business at a time when men dominated just about everything, but because she came up with a number of groundbreaking ideas, including storing wines in temperature controlled caves and producing the first Brut Champagne, which garnered her business many English customers! When she passed at 71 years, she was the first woman to be given a state funeral in France. The Pommery Brut Royal Champagne is made in the same brut style! And so, how does this wine stack up? Read on to find out!

  • Pommery Brut Royal Champagne is great as an aperitif – especially in a warm climate, or a beach picnic, since it’s lighter in body and very refreshing, when served at the right temperature! Made from equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, this wine is beautifully balanced and a bit more fruit forward in aroma and flavour, which was a nice surprise. This wine pairs well with a range food, including canapes, light salads, croquettes and crab cakes 😍

  • It’s a POP! We love that the Pommery Brut Royal Champagne is a touch more fruit forward than some others we’ve tried. With such interesting aromatics and a lovely, balanced and refreshing acidity and creamy palate, this Brut makes it a delicious aperitif, on the beach, at the dinner table or wherever strikes your fancy! 😍
