This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’re sipping Juvé & Camps Brut Rosé Cava! Is this a bottle of bubbles you should POP? 💁 Or is it a FLOP? 🙅 Let’s see…

Juvé y Camps is a family-owned winery located in the Penedès region of Catalonia (just outside of Barcelona). Founded in 1921 by Joan Juvé Baqués and his wife Teresa Camps Farré, they have been producing beautiful wines for three generations and have solidified themselves as one of the top quality Cava producers in Spain. Their wines are often served at banquets put on by Spain’s royal family, and their Cinta Púrpura Brut Reserva is a Sparkling Winos favourite – so we were eager to see how this one would stack up! This non-vintage Brut Rosé is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. And with a colour like that… we couldn’t wait to fill our flutes up!

Beautiful vibrant strawberry/salmon colour, it reminded us of a sunset… “red sky at night, sailors delight!” Very fine and persistent bubbles with a lovely creamy mousse.

Dominated by fresh summer fruit – almost like a fresh strawberry rhubarb pie in a glass. With a hint of honey and toasted almond, and delicate floral notes of cherry blossom and honeysuckle. Very punchy – it almost jumps out of the glass!

A repeat of what we experienced on the nose – we felt strawberry rhubarb pie was a bullseye here! Accompanied by tart cherry and a lovely faint vegetal note. Refreshing, vivacious and delicious. Dry, medium bodied, well balanced acidity and a lingering finish with a hint of sweet grapefruit!

As always, it’s best to pair a wine with the food from the region where it’s made. So we would love this with some tapas – patatas bravas, spanish tortilla, Serrano ham, Manchego cheese… we could go on forever! 😍 Also a great match for sushi, grilled salmon or a backyard BBQ!

It’s a POP! This Brut Rosé proved to be as vibrant and unique as its colour! As we mentioned earlier, Juvé y Camps Cinta Púrpura Brut Reserva is one of our go-to Cavas, and it’s Brut Rosé sister certainly did not disappoint! Even if you’re not a sparkling wine lover, the gorgeous colour and freshness of this wine is sure to appeal – and, it pairs wonderfully many dishes.
