This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’re sipping Vieni Estates Canada 150! Is this a bottle of bubbles you should POP? 💁 Or is it a FLOP? 🙅 Let’s see!

 

 

Vieni Estates is located in Beamsville in Ontario’s Wine Country and… luckily for us, specializes in sparkling wine! Master winemaker Mauro Salvador brings his passion for wine from Italy and combines it with his love for Ontario’s unique terroir and ability to produce world class wines. He produces a broad and compelling range of still and sparkling wines (crafted in the Charmat method, or Metodo Italiano) that are as diverse as Canada itself! Mauro works to craft wines that celebrate Ontario’s terroir, and building on this celebratory aspect comes Vieni’s Canada 150 sparkling red! Taking the best of the many varietals grown on the estate, the Canada 150 sparkling is a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Baco Noir (for a distinctly Canadian touch). With its beautiful branding, this wine is perfect for the upcoming sesquicentennial celebration of the true north, strong and free!

  • Pronounced nose, dominated by fresh red fruit (strawberry, raspberry, red currant, dark cherry compote) and an intriguing hint of earl grey tea.

  • Fuller bodied than most sparkling wines, medium acidity, and off-dry. The palate shows a repeat of the red fruit on the nose, with dark fruit flavours of plum and black current coming though as well. Soft mouthfeel, with a medium finish, and so easy to drink that you’ll be reaching for that second glass quicker than you can get through “O Canada”! 😉

  • This wine is absolutely delicious on its own! We love it as an aperitif, or after a meal. But it’s also incredibly diverse when it comes to pairing it with food. Try it with BBQ, or even with a light fruit based dessert.
