Heard it Through the Grapevine: with Jonas Newman

We first met Jonas Newman (Founder and Winemaker at Hinterland Wine Company) very briefly back in 2011, during our first visit out to the winery when we were just baby Sparkling Winos. Hinterland is located in Prince Edward County, and is the County’s first winery dedicated exclusively to sparkling wine production. Hinterland’s focus is on the farm. Their philosophy is that wine is made in the vineyard, and that authenticity is far more important than following trends.

Heard it Through the Grapevine: with Craig McDonald

Craig was born in Australia and has over two decades of winemaking experience in diverse wine regions like the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. He joined Andrew Peller Wines in 2010 and now has a total of 31 vintages under his belt. You gotta admit, that’s pretty impressive! Not to mention the fact that he was awarded “Ontario Winemaker of the Year” – twice!

Heard it Through the Grapevine: with Dr. Belinda Kemp

We had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Belinda Kemp at the Terroir Symposium here in Toronto. Belinda is a wine scientist who received her PhD from Lincoln University in New Zealand. In July 2013, the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) at Brock University, Ontario recruited Dr. Kemp to apply her extensive research and hands-on experience to the Canadian grape and wine industry – and we couldn’t be more lucky!

A Sparking Reflection on Terroir 2017

On May 29, 2017 we Sparkling Winos had the opportunity to attend the 2017 Terroir Symposium at the Art Gallery of Ontario. We had the pleasure of being among chefs, food and drink experts, media personalities and business representatives who gathered to celebrate Canada’s food and wine scene ahead of our sesquicentennial (or 150th) birthday!
