This year, we Sparkling Winos had the privilege of attending the International Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration (aka “i4C“) in Wine Country Ontario! It’s no surprise that i4C has been described as “Christmas in July” or the “Woodstock of Chardonnay”. With over 50 wine makers in attendance (and 150+ selected cool climate wines on offer) i4C is truly an epic celebration of all things cool… and the highlight of the summer calendar here in Niagara!
Nino Franco Brut Prosecco Superiore – Review
This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’re sipping Nino Franco Brut Prosecco Superiore! Now, that’s a mouthful of a name, eh?
Celebrate Canada’s 150th with Bubbles from Coast-to-Coast, Eh!
On July 1, 2017 Canada will celebrate it’s sesquicentennial (150th) birthday! As Canadians gear up for the big day, we Sparkling Winos thought… why not celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday with Canadian bubbles from a Mari usque ad Mare? (That’s “from sea to sea” in Latin – our country’s motto)!
Beat the Heat with Sparkling Slushies!
Summer has officially arrived – and it’s heating up outside! As the temperatures rise you’re probably looking for a quick and refreshing way to cool down, but don’t swap that glass of wine out for a cold beer just yet…
Champagne and Thai Cuisine, a match made in สวรรค์ (that’s heaven, in Thai)!
Last night we had the opportunity to sample the flavours of Northern Thailand and Laos at one of our favourite restaurants in Toronto: Sabai Sabai! And, as luck would have it, Sabai Sabai was pairing their delicious dishes with the one and only Veuve Clicquot Non-Vintage Brut Champagne! You might be thinking … uh, Thai food and Champagne? Yes! It’s an amazing pairing…
Heard it Through the Grapevine: with Dr. Belinda Kemp
We had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Belinda Kemp at the Terroir Symposium here in Toronto. Belinda is a wine scientist who received her PhD from Lincoln University in New Zealand. In July 2013, the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) at Brock University, Ontario recruited Dr. Kemp to apply her extensive research and hands-on experience to the Canadian grape and wine industry – and we couldn’t be more lucky!
#MimosaHacks – with Kavi Reserve!
It’s all about dad this weekend! And what do dad’s love more than most… uh, dad things? Whisky! We’ve been obsessing over the new Kavi Reserve – a small batch cold-brewed coffee blended Canadian Whisky (say that 3 times fast!) that’s expertly crafted with all natural ingredients. The coffee and whisky are made specifically to compliment each other, resulting in something seriously delicious, and totally unique.
5 Sparkling Wines to Celebrate Ontario Wine Week
It’s Ontario Wine Week! This week long celebration of local wine was officially declared by the provincial government back in June 2005, and we’ve been celebrating it ever since! To celebrate Ontario Wine Week we’ve selected one of our current favourite sparkling wines from each region – all very different in style – to showcase the diversity of Ontario sparkling wine…

A Sparking Reflection on Terroir 2017
On May 29, 2017 we Sparkling Winos had the opportunity to attend the 2017 Terroir Symposium at the Art Gallery of Ontario. We had the pleasure of being among chefs, food and drink experts, media personalities and business representatives who gathered to celebrate Canada’s food and wine scene ahead of our sesquicentennial (or 150th) birthday!
