Champagne and Thai Cuisine, a match made in สวรรค์ (that’s heaven, in Thai)!

Last night we had the opportunity to sample the flavours of Northern Thailand and Laos at one of our favourite restaurants in Toronto: Sabai Sabai! And, as luck would have it, Sabai Sabai was pairing their delicious dishes with the one and only Veuve Clicquot Non-Vintage Brut Champagne! You might be thinking … uh, Thai food and Champagne? Yes! It’s an amazing pairing…

A Sparking Reflection on Terroir 2017

On May 29, 2017 we Sparkling Winos had the opportunity to attend the 2017 Terroir Symposium at the Art Gallery of Ontario. We had the pleasure of being among chefs, food and drink experts, media personalities and business representatives who gathered to celebrate Canada’s food and wine scene ahead of our sesquicentennial (or 150th) birthday!

Konzelmann Methode Cuve Close Sparkling Riesling – Review

This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’re sipping Konzelmann Estate Winery’s Methode Cuve Close Sparkling Riesling! Is this a bottle of bubbles you should POP? 💁 Or is it a FLOP? 🙅 Let’s see!     Konzelmann Estate Winery is located in the Niagara Peninsula appellation of Ontario – and boy, is the winery beautiful! As Niagara’s only lakefront winery, it is a destination onto its own! 😍 In 1984, fourth generation winemaker Herbert Konzelmann arrived in Niagara-on-the-Lake from Germany, wishing to establish a Canadian winery under his family’s guidance. When Herbert arrived in Niagara, he …

A Sparkling Review of the Cuvée 2017 Grand Tasting!

This year, we had the opportunity to attend the Cuvée 2017 Grand Tasting, hosted by Brock University’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) in Niagara Falls, Canada! And luckily for us, the bubbly was well represented! 🍾

10 Fantastic Sparkling Wines Cheaper Than a Pitcher of Beer

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner – and nothing says Luck o’the Irish quite like shamrocks, top hats and pitchers of green beer, right?! 🍀 But what does a #SparklingWino do on St. Paddy’s Day? While we probably shouldn’t dye our Champagne green, we can certainly join in the festivities and raise a glass to the dude that got rid of the snakes in Ireland (or something)! 🐉 So, to help you navigate the greenest, most Irish day of the year, we’ve handpicked 10 Fantastic Sparkling Wines Cheaper than a Pitcher of Beer.

Why Ontario Sparkling Wines are the Best, Eh!

That’s right! There’s more to Canada than maple syrup, polar bears and a hunky Prime Minister! The country is home to a diverse array of climates, with certain areas (like southern Ontario) on the same ideal grape growing latitude as southern France. Fortunately for us Toronto based #SparklingWinos, that means we’re able to produce world class wines in our own backyard!

#MimosaHacks! The Mimos’eh – or, the Canadian Mimosa!

It’s been a while and we Sparkling Winos think it’s time for another #MimosaHack! It’s February 20 – Family Day in Ontario, Canada 😍 So what better way to celebrate your favourites than with your favourite – a mimosa? Today’s no ordinary Family Day – in 2017, Toronto’s CN Tower (the western hemisphere’s tallest free standing structure) is turning 41, the Canadian Flag is turning 52 and Canada is turning (a whopping) 150! We may be a baby of a country, but we know how to festivate! So let us help you turn your Mimosa into a Mimos’eh, in honour of red maple, a shirtlessly hunky Prime Minister and amazing, traditional method bubbles (that’s right – we make quite a few of ’em in Ontario!) 🍾

We all know a certain Veuve that took control of a major champagne house, but did you know that another Veuve – the Veuve Jeanne Alexandrine Louise Mélin Pommery – took control of the Champagne Pommery house in 1860? Louise was an early #GirlPower pioneer, not only because she ran a business at …

Foss Maraï Extra Dry Prosecco – Review

This is “POP or FLOP”, where we taste test sparkling wines so you don’t have to! This week we’re sipping Foss Maraï Extra Dry Prosecco! With its non-Italian sounding name and distinctive blue bottle, how could we not give this sparkling a go? 😁 Is this a bottle of bubbles you should POP? 💁 Or is it a FLOP? 🙅 Let’s see…     E, come se dice … ? “Foss,” in the local Venetian dialect, means ditch and “Maraï” is the name of a valley in Guia, Italy where Foss Maraï Extra Dry Prosecco is produced by the Biasiotto family. Wine production on the Foss …
